Santa Clara, CA – Rad-icon Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of high-performance CMOS image sensors and cameras for the digital radiography market worldwide, in partnership with RSF Systems of Germany, today announced the general availability of the Remote RadEye200 x-ray camera, its newest entry in the Remote RadEye™ product line. The Remote RadEye200 provides the ultimate flexibility in design and product options for complex imaging applications. The unique camera design separates the x-ray sensor module from its supporting electronics: the module is mounted on a detachable cable enabling easy installation into tight spaces or on gantry systems. While other imaging solutions can be bulky and difficult to implement, the Remote RadEye is slim, lightweight, and housed in a rugged stainless steel package.

The unsurpassed flexibility of the Remote RadEye200 comes from the various product options that are offered: first, the sensor module is available in a base configuration with a direct-coupled scintillator for the 10-50 keV energy range. Next, the sensor module is available in an EV model for higher-dose x-ray applications and energies up to 160 keV. Then, we offer the product with a Beryllium-window option for high sensitivity to low-energy x-rays in the 5-20 keV range for applications such as x-ray crystallography and low-density material imaging. Finally, all models can be customized with different scintillator options, and are available in either premium or standard image quality grades.

For scientific research and industrial inspection applications, the Remote RadEye200 camera elegantly addresses the need to be able to time and coordinate the detector externally. The Remote RadEye200’s shutter open time is 800 milliseconds, which is roughly twice as fast as other imaging solutions such as CCDs. In the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries, researchers need to rapidly study the molecular changes in protein crystals after certain drugs are applied. By collecting images of x-ray diffraction patterns from crystallized protein samples, researchers can determine the effectiveness of the drug under study as well as determine what side effects exist. Rad-icon’s large area, low noise CMOS detectors can be used to collect diffraction images in 1/10th the amount of time as the conventional detection instruments at a fraction of the cost.

“The Remote RadEye200 combines nearly 100cm2 of active silicon with flexible packaging options to create a high-performance, cost-effective x-ray camera. It’s the ultimate solution for many digital radiography applications,” said Thorsten Achterkirchen, General Manager of Rad-icon Imaging Corporation and Vice President of DALSA Corporation. “We’re pleased to develop the Remote RadEye200 in partnership with RSF Systems of Germany to directly address the x-ray imaging needs of a global market.”

The Remote RadEye200 sensor module consists of a tiled array of two RadEye100 x-ray sensors in a rugged stainless steel enclosure that is approximately the size of a paperback novel. Featuring a 1024 x 1000 pixel image area with 96µm pixel size for a 10 x 10 cm active image area, the RadEye200 offers an unsurpassed abundance of silicon real estate in a compact, cost-effective package. The camera is suitable for industrial inspection applications where images are taken in tight or difficult-to-reach spaces. In addition, system integrators gain flexibility in building cabinet systems or portable inspection applications.
