Santa Clara, CA – Rad-icon Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of high-performance CMOS image sensors and cameras for the digital radiography market worldwide, today announced the general availability of the RadEye100, its newest CMOS x-ray sensor in the RadEye product line. The RE100 features an impressive active area of 5 x 10cms at an unprecedentedly low cost of $3,995 list price, making it an attractive solution to those looking for superior image quality in a large area, high resolution, x-ray sensor.
The requirement of x-ray imaging is to have a sensing area at least as large as the object under study. Existing solutions such as a-Si panels can address the active area size requirements, but compromise on noise performance and image resolution. Image intensifiers have been in the industry for decades, but have well-known disadvantages such as bulkiness and image distortions. With CMOS x-ray imaging, the penetrating radiation creates shadow images with signal levels proportional to the density of the object under study. Without the use of focusing optics, the detection focal plane must be as large as the object itself. The large active area CMOS x-ray sensors – like Rad-icon’s RadEye100 – enable radiographers to x-ray large components without compromising image quality.
"CMOS photodiode technology has evolved from its beginnings in the early days of the Silicon Valley to being the preeminent imaging technology in the industry today, where its performance and quality surpasses competing technology," said Gene Weckler, President and Founder, Rad-icon Imaging Corporation. "The RadEye100 builds upon Rad-icon’s expertise in CMOS x-ray imaging and delivers unparalleled performance for a wide range of applications."
Each RadEye100 consists of an array of 512 by 1024 photodiodes on 96 µm centers, and is a three-side tileable, fully integrated CMOS sensor designed for both visible and high-energy imaging. The sensor requires a single 5V supply voltage, consumes less than 0.2 Watts of power, can be operated with a single clock signal, and generates a differential video signal at a top data rate of up to 1MHz. The RadEye100 is the perfect solution for applications 10-50kV energy range for scientific applications such as protein x-ray crystallography, for medical applications such as tissue biopsy, and for industrial inspection/non-destructive testing applications such as plastics and composite inspection. This product is available with fiber optic faceplate for higher energy and custom applications.
